For December 19th:

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl, instead they put it on its stand , and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, they they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

This Little Light of Mine I’m Gonna Let It Shine
We have a tradition in the McPherson household that occurs every December 1st. Wayne gives Ginnie the remote to the T.V. You see Ginnie loves Hallmark movies and especially Christmas movies. (And this is a bonus year, they started November 1) I never tire of them. I can watch them over and over and over.
However one year there seem to be a run on “Claus” movies. Extremely dumb and silly was an understatement, but as a true Hallmark fan, I watched them anyway. One night I was watching “Meet the Claus” and I thought if I hear one more HO-HO-HO, I might lose it and turn them OFF. But sometimes God sends a message when you least expect it.
The story line went Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Sr. were retiring. (to Florida no less to play golf.) Nick, Jr. was to take over, BUT- there is always a but- there had to be a Mrs. Claus or there would be No Christmas. So Nick had to fall in love and get married. Events had prevented the marriage and it is now days before Christmas and they are trying to get the wedding in. The Mrs. Claus, to be, kept learning of the jobs she was expected to do. These were jobs like pick out the wrapping paper, decide on who and what candies to get, do the decorations, select presents for children who do not request any and make cookies. Just an assortment of little jobs that seemed rather non essential. (And making cookies was not one of her talents.) Christmas Eve came and there was no wedding and no Mrs. Claus and Lights all over the world went out. Total darkness.
Did that one dumb-silly movie have a message for me? God has created each of us for a unique purpose, there are no non-essential jobs, and above all His Light is to shine through us. Without Christ in Christmas, there is no Christmas and our “LIGHT” may be the one light for someone to come to Christ.

Prayer: Dear Father God, Thank You for the Special Season of Christmas and this is the time of year when your Light in us shines as bright as the star that the Wise Men followed. We pray that our “Lights” will continue to Light up the world for you all year long.

Ginnie McPherson
