“And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, ‘Samuel,!
Samuel!’ And Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant hears.’” 1 Samuel 3:10
Have you ever been watching your
favorite T.V. show, or just sitting down for the first time that day when you
hear that dreaded knock at the door? The dog starts barking-demanding you
answer the door. You know you should get up and answer it. But believe it
or not you have plenty of magazine subscriptions and "all-occasion"
wrapping paper. So you don't get up. The knocking finally stops and
all is quiet (including your dog). Then the guilt hits you. What if it
was your neighbor needing to borrow a cup of sugar or someone who truly
needed your help?
When God knocks on your door-do you answer it or choose to ignore it? Six
years ago when God knocked on my 18 year old daughter's door, I was so angry
and confused why she answered it. Angry at her and equally angry at
God. Why did God need my little girl in Africa away from me, the rest of
her family, and friends? Away from the life plan I had envisioned for
her. Could he not have knocked on someone else's door? As time
has passed, I understand why he knocked on her door. Her passion for
His word and her love for the people of Africa has shown me, that no knock, no
matter what, should go unanswered. Jordan did not answer the door
hesitantly, she ran with all her might to answer God's knock.
Do you ever hear God knocking and choose not to answer? God doesn't knock
on your door to be annoying or mess up your day. God doesn't knock on
random doors. God knocks on your door because he needs YOUR help!
Lisa Miller
(The
irony of this story is God has been knocking on my door-I finally answered!)
