“Give to the one who
asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” Matthew 5:42
I
have made a great friend at the YMCA water aerobics class. She was a missionary in Hungary and is
now retired. She had knee
replacement surgery last summer for the third time and is finally able to walk
with a cane. She fell five weeks
ago at the pool and broke at least one if not three toes. She has been home healing. One Friday, I was in the dressing room
of the Y and my cell phone rang.
It was my friend and she asked me if I could take her to run some
errands. I told her that it would
be fine and I would finish dressing and come to get her. I had to call my husband and son to
cancel our lunch plans but that was no big problem. I went to her house, which is just down from the church and
my house, and we did three errands, then I took her home. She was so thankful but I told her that
I appreciated her thinking of me to do this for her. She said that she asked me because I was her friend and she
new I would tell her no if I could not do it. I am so grateful for her friendship and opportunities to do
what Jesus tells us we should do for others. I know many think that to serve you need to do something
really big like a mission trip but you can do something small too. Remember Matt. 25:45 says, “He will
reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of
these, you did not do for me.”
Dear
Lord, Help me to be ready to serve you, anytime I have the opportunity or see
the need.
