For April 16th:
“My frame was not hidden from you, when I was
being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes
saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the
days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.” Psalm
139:15-16
When
I paint I am looking at the details of objects and faces. I feel like I am
trying to duplicate the “gifts” that God puts in front of me. Like it’s my way
of saying thank you for the beauty I find in His creation. I paint things that
I love, that I find beautiful. It might be a sunflower, a basket of plump
peaches, a sliced tomato, or a happy young face. My inspiration might originate
in my mind as a larger picture, but as I begin the process of putting paint to
canvas it is all about the intricate details of the underlying shapes,
highlights and shadows that form the subjects. As a painting progresses, I am
often caught awestruck at the intricacy of God’s creativity, especially in the
faces of children. Each is so unique and wonderful. My God is the Master “old
master”.
