“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” 2 Corinthians
9:11
Lou
Gehrig said when he quit baseball due to his disease, “I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the
earth”. That is exactly how I feel.
I have had so many wonderful people in my life’s path that have been
such guides, examples, and encouragers.
There are unsung heroes who have made such an impact on my life as well
as other’s lives. I am sure that all of us could make a list a mile long of
those who we are thankful for.
I would
like to lift up one person who I am so grateful came into my life and into the
life of Christ Church. His name is
Bill Gwaltney and many of you know him.
Bill is such an unselfish and giving man who never wants any credit for
his good deeds. Bill, and his wife
Glenda, have hearts of gold and a willingness to serve even when it isn’t
convenient. Bill coordinates the
handicapped bus drivers and keeps up with those needs as well as helping keep
our vans running and fueled.
On their
own, they have been known to go get groceries for folks, deliver needed food,
and take people on errands. Bill
takes instruments back and forth from the local high school for symphony days
here at Christ Church. He takes
missioners to Atlanta to catch their planes to go serve others in foreign
lands.
During
the last building phase of the Commons and Youth area, Bill voluntarily served
as the church’s liaison with the site director. He spent hours nearly every day checking deliveries and
scheduling.
They
both volunteer one day a week at a local hospital.
I have
never once heard Bill complain about being called on, and his sense of humor
stays intact, no matter what the situation. I truly am thankful that Bill is such a part of my life and
more importantly that he is my friend.
