For October 9th:

“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
Psalm 106:1

More words of wisdom from Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, 1600s…
(See the March 9th entry for background information about this obscure French monk).

“…When we’re busy with work or daily life, during our devotional reading time, or even during church services, we should pause a moment, as often as we can, just to tell God we love Him with our whole hearts. It’s sort of like we’re secretly enjoying the fragrance of His goodness as He passes by. Because you know God lives in your deepest heart and soul, why not clear your calendar for Him once in while—even put aside your spoken prayers—just to adore Him quietly, praise Him, ask Him for what you need, offer Him your devotion, or tell Him thank you? God loves it when we take this kind of mini-retreat during the day, when we leave behind our agendas to adore Him in our hearts. What’s more these retreats free us step-by-step as they destroy the kind of self-love that flourishes when we’re out in the world. In the end, the best way we can tell God we’re faithful is to turn away (and keep turning away) from material things—just so we can be with our Creator for a moment!...”
