“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything
that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with
perseverance the race marked out for us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter
of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:1-2
In
the traditional church calendar, today is the Eve of All Saints Day. All Saints
Day is a day to pause and remember the saints who have gone before us during
the previous year. Around this date in traditional worship services the names
of the saints are read aloud or printed in the bulletin to honor their memory
in our midst and offer encouragement for the loved ones still on the spiritual
journey on this side of the kingdom. Please pause for a few moments today or
tomorrow in memory of these CUMC members who arrived in the eternal kingdom
this past year (as of print date for this edition):

Prayer: Gracious Heavenly Father, We thank you
for the blessing of knowing these saints here on earth, and look forward to the
day when we will join them in that great cloud of witnesses at the foot of your
throne. Amen
