For June 2nd:
”All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and
obstinate people.” Romans 10:21
It was the night before
Easter, and as I was putting Amanda to bed, I held her in my arms and just kept
saying over and over “Thank You Father, Thank You Father.” You see, that
afternoon Amanda had come within a breathe of falling through the attic
ceiling. We had gone up to look for our plastic Easter eggs. Mandy has a very strong will and a very
strong tendency not to listen. Our attic is 97% floored, but there are a couple
of places where the boards do not totally come together. I had said over and
over to Mandy “Watch where you step. Stay on the boards.” Why did I let her go
to the attic?' Sometimes it is just easier to give in and just let her do
things her way.
I had gotten a new light
that day and for the first time ever, we could see more than just a little
flashlight beam. Just in time I saw Mandy step off the board and on the space
that was only wallboard.
I screamed “Mandy, you are
off the boards” and reached for her just as the ceiling gave way.
Her feet had gone through,
but that was when God gave me that super strength to do the impossible.
I pulled her back up and
that night I held her tight and prayed my prayer, “Thank You Father.”
As I laid in my bed that
night, thinking of the day's events and that tomorrow would be Easter, suddenly
there was an understanding in my heart of what Jesus had done for me. On that
cross He had reached out and grabbed me. You see, I too am very strong willed
and I too have a tendency not to listen, and Jesus in His love lets us do
things our way. Whether good or bad. But just as Mandy's life was saved that
day, Jesus has also saved mine. But what a price He paid for my life.
Like Mandy, I know I will forget and
not listen and get off the good solid boards but I am safe in His Hands.
Prayer: Papa God, Your heart broke as
You watched Your Son take on all of our sins on that Cross so that for evermore
all of us strong willed people who forget to listen will find themselves safe
in your hands. THANK YOU, FATHER
