For June 17th:
“No temptation has overtaken you not common to
man. God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability,
but with temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be
able to endure it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
“Individual
disasters very largely follow upon human choices, our own or those of others.
And whether or not they do in a particular case, the situations in which we
find ourselves are never as important as our responses to them, which come from
our ‘spiritual’ side. A carefully cultivated heart will, assisted by the grace
of God, foresee, foresail, forestall, or transform most of the painful
situations before which others stand like helpless children saying “Why?
…what
matters most for how life goes and ought to go is what we are on the ‘inside’.
Things good and bad will happen to us, of course. But what our life amounts to,
at least for those who reach full age, is largely, if not entirely, a matter of
what we become within. This ‘within’ is the arena of spiritual formation and,
later, transformation.”

Character of Christ, 2012
