“Talk no more so very proudly,
let not arrogance come
from your mouth;
for the LORD is a God of knowledge,
and by him actions are
weighed.” 1 Samuel 2:3
“Do you know the balancings of the clouds,
the wondrous
works of him who is perfect in knowledge.” Job 37:16
“Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding
has no limit.” Psalm 147:5
Have you
ever gone back to visit a place from your childhood? Perhaps you
have had occasion to walk through the halls of your elementary school, set foot
on a much-loved playground, or revisited a grandparent’s front
porch? The hallways seem much smaller, the merry-go-round is less than
waist-high, and the wrap-around porch seems to have shrunk to an almost
unrecognizable scale.
Have
those physical places changed? No, but you have. The dimensions and
reality of their existence has remained true, but your perception of them has
changed as you have grown.
Many
times we face and assess situations that seem quite obvious.
Maybe we make quick judgments of someone’s actions or intentions. Or,
we make decisions on how to proceed based only on our own assessments or feelings. We
don’t see eye-to-eye with our spouse or a friend, and we are convinced that we
are right because of the way we see the situation. “Why can’t that other
person see this? It is so clear” we might say or think to
ourselves. Then, through time, our perspective changes as we begin
to be able to see more clearly, more broadly, and from the perspective of others
. God wants to show us that our vision is so often limited and He, the
One who Sees and Knows all, wants to “grow” us as we learn to trust Him to
broaden our perspective.
Prayer: Lord, how
grateful we are that your vision and knowledge are perfect ! And, that
you want to share that wisdom and vision with us is both humbling and
comforting. Create in us the desire to enlarge our perspective with Your
help.
