“Do not be anxious about anything, but in verything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace
of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds
in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“The Power of a
Praying Parent…Psshh,…yeah right,” I mumbled as I passed that well- worn book
sitting on what was once my mother’s table. I wandered out loud how Stormie
Omartian (Author, The Power of a Praying Parent, 1995) could have ever
sold over 10 million copies of that book. I had been a praying parent, but was
finding no power in those prayers. Where was the power? In the 40 seconds it
took me to give that book the eye roll and spew sarcasm all around, it only
took about 5 more seconds to hear the words I needed for that moment. “How dare
you question the power of prayer, Bonnie White,” I found myself rebuking. “What
has He saved you and your children from thus far of which you are unaware?” I
continued. Feeling ashamed of my doubt, yet comforted by His power, I leafed
through the pages of the book, as I had countless times before. Stormie
reminded me that God didn’t promise me nothing bad would ever happen to my
child, but that praying released the power of God to work in his life and I could
have more peace in the process. Thank you, Stormie. I’m sorry I spewed sarcasm
on your book. Thank You, God. I’m sorry I ever doubt You or the power of this
humbled praying parent. Thank You for the gift and privilege of prayer.
Bonnie White
