“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow
of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 ESV
I
was fortunate to serve the homeless of Chattanooga PB&J sack lunches with
the youth group of Christ Church one Saturday morning. Not only was it a
blessing to serve the needy in our community, but it was incredible to see
God’s work through our high school students. A few of our students had the
opportunity to speak with one man that pointed them to Psalm 91. This man was
new to Chattanooga and new to homelessness, yet he was holding on to this
scripture with a very grateful heart. His testimony taught us that if we simply
“dwell in the shelter of the Most High” we will be able to accept all
circumstances in life and accept them with praise and thankfulness, no matter
how difficult, or how damaging those circumstances may be. This man has nothing
in our physical world, but he showed us that he is rich in thankfulness and
praise to the Lord God—the one who was, who is, and is to come!
How can you be
thankful in this day? In those moments when you think everything around you has
crumbled and been destroyed, where will you make your dwelling place? Run to
the God who can carry any guilt, shame, hurt, or pain. Run to him out of
thankfulness and praise.
